  It’s April 5th, 2024, a rainy morning awaits outside my window. As I drag myself out of bed for the last day before the weekend, I must admit, I’m feeling sluggish. I’m practically sleepwalking through classes and meetings until I sit down to write. Why is there nothing in my brain? I pop in my AirPods, both of them even though the right one is useless, I do it mostly for the vibes or the hope I won’t be interrupted by people passing by my table. With one slight sound of a guitar, joy and a bit of sadness begin to paint my face as Lizzy McAlpine’s “To the Mountains” plays. This is what I will write about. Today is no ordinary day for my sad boy music taste. It is the day that my favorite musician has released a brand new album, however I won’t listen to that for another few hours. Hello my name is Kaleb Unger I am currently a communications major at a small liberal arts university in the Northwest. I have always wanted to start my own blog and allow people to share their writing on some of my favorite topics like sports, movies, tv shows, and music. A few weeks ago the Oscars came and went with mostly positive reviews. There were no slaps or wrong announcements in fact it was hailed as a success. This came as welcomed news for the Academy as it has been a rather rough stretch of shows the last few years. Even bigger for the Academy was that not only was the show a broadcasting and entertainment success but their choices were hailed as consistent and dare I say correct. I know shocker, the Academy picked the right people to win, what a world we live in. However, now that we are a few weeks removed and my daze of excitement from Gosling's dazzling “I'm Just Ken” performance is gone, I have one major complaint about what I thought was the biggest snub of the night.  Usually the public gets up in arms about things like best picture or best actor, these are the categories that most are at least a little bit educated on. This means upsets like Shakespeare in Love winning over Saving Private Ryan are almost always the big story....

Whether you like it or not Taylor Swift is likely the most prolific artist of her time. The stats and quotes that affirm this take could be said but that's likely unnecessary window dressing for the overall point. Swift not only boasts a number of impressive sales but she has done it while tweaking her style, some may say constantly growing. Yes it’s fair to admit she is not making astronomical shifts but she is making noticeable ones throughout her nearly 20 year career. Swift has had many hits in this time covering a wide range of topics. However for many there is one song that stands out above the rest, her 2012 hit “All Too Well” from the famous album Red . For as long as I could remember, the adults in my life had always referred to me as an old soul. I was fond of the title, leaned into it even. To further claim my title of old soul, I avoided modern culture: books, movies, but especially music. Maybe by admitting this I’m predating myself and going against the pride I take in being an old soul but here goes: I had no idea who Bob Dylan was until I heard about him in my favorite movie mere years ago. Both the artist and Time Out of Mind , his smashing comeback album, were unfamiliar to me until they provided a large bit of source material for Dan Fogelman’s film Life Itself . Upon listening to his album, I realized the literary and musical goldmine that was Time Out of Mind . If you have come here because you read the title of this article and are a die hard Taylor Swift fan ready to defend your favorite songs that didn’t make the list, you’ve come to the right place. Let me preface your reading experience by first saying that I have always been one to have a few unpopular opinions and I am subject to bias (who isn’t about something so close to your heart?). I have favorite albums and albums that have been clouded by my sister overplaying two songs from it that have led to its untimely grade in my overall ranking of Taylor Swift albums.
