This is an indication of a business in a bit of a panic with the slim hope of an optimistic future. The business is the movies, more specifically the business is movie theaters. Yes they still exist all around you and they are at war. The war isn’t being fought in the streets, it's being fought on picket lines and against your very home entertainment system. The one you say sounds just as good as the movie theater. Before you worry this is not an article of financial numbers, this is an article undeniably of feeling.   The era of Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy spanned for three movies, and seven years. They are centered around billionaire Bruce Wayne, portrayed by Christian Bale and follows him from his origins to the ending of his time as the Caped Crusader.  Though following the formula of Batman’s typical origin story: a) dead parents, b) turning to a life of crime to gain vengeance, and the obvious:  c) becoming the Batman, Christopher Nolan adds a grittier element yet to be seen on screen in the form of the League of Shadows.           A few years ago pre the virus that trapped us all in the house Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson might have been the biggest and most bankable star in Hollywood movies. Fast forward however and while his career is not necessarily on life support there has been a definite staying from the limelight. How did we get here for the WWE superstar and can the man we call The Rock ever find his way back among the Hollywood royalty.  The Rock has an extremely dynamic personality. His ability as an actor may vary based on who you ask but his charisma can’t be denied. Since his days in the WWE Johnson has always effortlessly grabbed the attention of the screen and while it took a while for that spirit to find its way to the big screen once it did it was clear that Johnson had the juice.                    Over my fall break, I spent four days watching every single X-Men movie. It took me over 50 hours and seventy bucks, but I found myself fully engrossed with the entire X-men cinematic universe and its characters, but I was especially invested in Wolverine. Look, I’ll be honest. I love Hugh Jackman and have loved him since the first time I heard him sing (I knew him as Jean Valijean before I knew him as Wolverine). However, the manner in which he plays Wolverine is one of the most needlessly captivating ways that I have ever seen a superhero portrayed and I’m not sure I was able to put my finger on it until I finished my marathon with the critically acclaimed Logan .  Taking place in the near future, Logan is centered around a weary and ill Wolverine who now drives a limousine for a living while caring for an ailing Professor X who is wreaked with deadly seizures.           As long as I’ve been a movie fan, I’ve avoided anything found in the horror genre. To me, horror movies were a one way ticket to needing to sleep with three lamps on for the next month and a half. However, after years of avoiding the horror genre, I finally worked up the courage to lean into it while convincing myself that I could handle it this time. Though telling myself this was a gamble, the one that I started my horror journey with was Tommy Lee Wallace’s 1990 film adaption of It, followed directly by Andres Muschietti’s  2017 adaption of It:  Chapter 1. Based on Stephen King’s novel of the same name, the story follows seven young outcasts that reside in Derry, Maine. They band together to face their own fears and fight an evil that only shows itself every 27 years. The two movies face stark differences both in the effects used, but also the story, character development, and level of fear that it evokes.      ...

A few weeks ago the Oscars came and went with mostly positive reviews. There were no slaps or wrong announcements in fact it was hailed as a success. This came as welcomed news for the Academy as it has been a rather rough stretch of shows the last few years. Even bigger for the Academy was that not only was the show a broadcasting and entertainment success but their choices were hailed as consistent and dare I say correct. I know shocker, the Academy picked the right people to win, what a world we live in. However, now that we are a few weeks removed and my daze of excitement from Gosling's dazzling “I'm Just Ken” performance is gone, I have one major complaint about what I thought was the biggest snub of the night.  Usually the public gets up in arms about things like best picture or best actor, these are the categories that most are at least a little bit educated on. This means upsets like Shakespeare in Love winning over Saving Private Ryan are almost always the big story....
