         Tim Burton is a bit eccentric, well maybe very eccentric but that is what makes him so endearing. Whether it’s Beetlejuice or his iteration of Batman in 1989 it seems that the award winning director prides himself and his films on being well, distinguishable. Burton has had his fair share of successes and flops. When it comes to the flops however they are often one sided in the sense that if the critics don’t like it usually the audience does and vice versa however if neither like it you can count on his devoted group of fans to find the silver lining. This is what makes his 2001 remake of Planet of the Apes rather disappointing, aside from an interesting twist Burton’s rendition to put it kindly falls flat on its face and seemed to not land with any audience. Burton's career has not really been the same since so what comes next in Burton’s filmography after this misstep is potentially his most underrated and odd film of all.     ...

For as long as I could remember, the adults in my life had always referred to me as an old soul. I was fond of the title, leaned into it even. To further claim my title of old soul, I avoided modern culture: books, movies, but especially music. Maybe by admitting this I’m predating myself and going against the pride I take in being an old soul but here goes: I had no idea who Bob Dylan was until I heard about him in my favorite movie mere years ago. Both the artist and Time Out of Mind , his smashing comeback album, were unfamiliar to me until they provided a large bit of source material for Dan Fogelman’s film Life Itself . Upon listening to his album, I realized the literary and musical goldmine that was Time Out of Mind .           As long as I’ve been a movie fan, I’ve avoided anything found in the horror genre. To me, horror movies were a one way ticket to needing to sleep with three lamps on for the next month and a half. However, after years of avoiding the horror genre, I finally worked up the courage to lean into it while convincing myself that I could handle it this time. Though telling myself this was a gamble, the one that I started my horror journey with was Tommy Lee Wallace’s 1990 film adaption of It, followed directly by Andres Muschietti’s  2017 adaption of It:  Chapter 1. Based on Stephen King’s novel of the same name, the story follows seven young outcasts that reside in Derry, Maine. They band together to face their own fears and fight an evil that only shows itself every 27 years. The two movies face stark differences both in the effects used, but also the story, character development, and level of fear that it evokes.      ...

Whether you like it or not Taylor Swift is likely the most prolific artist of her time. The stats and quotes that affirm this take could be said but that's likely unnecessary window dressing for the overall point. Swift not only boasts a number of impressive sales but she has done it while tweaking her style, some may say constantly growing. Yes it’s fair to admit she is not making astronomical shifts but she is making noticeable ones throughout her nearly 20 year career. Swift has had many hits in this time covering a wide range of topics. However for many there is one song that stands out above the rest, her 2012 hit “All Too Well” from the famous album Red .
